About The Artist
Hi I’m Arie Bonsor, the Artist and Designer of Dead Ringer purses. I want to tell you a little bit about what I do and what makes my purses uniquely curious. My passion is to use my art to help our Mother Earth. I have always been a maker, ever since I was a wee one making crafts at the kitchen table. When I was growing up in the early 90’s the concept of recycling had become a major idea taught and put into daily practice at school. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This mantra is now ingrained in my daily life. It is extremely important to me to have the smallest amount of waste as possible in my process. The whole point of using forgotten fashion is to diminish our footprint on the Earth. We have been given this beautiful planet to live on and we need to take care of her as she does us.
ALL THE LEATHER I USE IS RECLAIMED. I get donations of old leather jackets, purses, pants, accessories; I comb thrift stores; I get abandoned leather samples from furniture stores. I use all sorts of found objects and treasures in my work and accessories. I love to rip things apart and puzzle them back together into something new. To add to the curiousness of my accessories I often incorporate spooky screen printed images, adding another level of creepiness.
